Remsenburg, deep in its farming, equine, and nautical history, has a distinctly Norman Rockwell–ish charm—where lawns, winding roads, and classic homes set the scene for a close-knit, unhurried way of life. Shaped by land and water, it reflects a timeless sense of community, local pride, and everyday moments that feel warmly familiar. Despite not having ‘Hampton” in its name, it is the south western-most hamlet of Southampton, New York, and closest to NYC both by car and by train. Much of Remsenburg’s charming appeal is that it is quite subdued, hardly showy with many of its avenues leading to the very peaceful Moriches Bay and its inlets. It welcomes local lectures, meetings, fine art exhibitions and other events. The Westhampton Yacht Squadron, is a private boating and sailing community beautifully sited on the Moriches Bay overlooking the renown Dune Road. The main building was relocated to Remsenburg from neighboring Westhampton many, many years ago after destructive Hurricane damage. The name never changed. Remsenburg has been home to many writers, athletes, developers, along with prominent figures from both the stage and the screen. Remsenburg’s secret of being a hidden, Hampton gem, was finally “out” when Covid hit NY and has staked its place on the Hampton map since.
Remsenburg offers a convenient commercial corridor concentrated along the Montauk Highway, which separates it from the neighboring hamlet of Speonk to the North. Highlights here include Mary’s Pizza home to both indoor and outdoor dining, great atmosphere and bar, not to forget its delicious pizzas and other authentic Italian eats. Bagels N Brunch is a convenient breakfast spot with lunch options, The line there in the mornings tells its success story! A local favorite in June is the Peg Larkins Memorial 5K Run and Walk through the area’s beautiful scenery. Remsenburg is close to several of the Hampton’s best beaches along Dune Road’s white-sand barrier island. Remsenburg operates its own Remsenburg-Speonk Union Free School District for students up to and including the 6th grade. Students attend the Westhampton Beach School District beginning in 7th grade.
